Welcome to the SHHS Polysomnography PhysioRepository

The SHHS Polysomnography PhysioRepository is a novel resource that facilitates data sharing and collaborations with the Sleep Heart Health Study’s large database of research polysomnograms. The PhysioRepository offers not only access to PSG signal data, but provides a powerful querying tool linked to clinical and epidemiological data for easy and meaningful selection of studies that meet specified criteria. Available Data

Currently PSG signal data are available in EDF format, with an additional XML file containing scoring annotations.  Several edf viewers are available for download.

NOTE: As of May, 2007, it was discovered that the XML annotation files for data from the Sleep Heart Health Study contain incomplete listings of desaturation events. We are working to correct this problem and will distribute corrected data files to users who have previously downloaded these annotation files.

In addition to signal data, we have a database of summary outcome and covariate variables that may also be available for download.  See Understanding PSG Data for more information about summary variables. See the full Data Dictionary for details on all variables.

Downloading Overview

Log in or register. (Users can log in as a guest without registering to query the database, but will not be able to process or download requests.)

Step 1 - Select a data source. Choose to download studies from one or more currently available Collaborative Research study databases.

Step 2 - Limit database to records that meet your criteria. Users can query the database based on a number of outcome and covariate variables. Receive immediate feedback as to how many studies in the specified database meet those criteria.

Step 3 - Select a format in which to receive data. Currently study data are available in edf format, with scoring annotations in xml, and users can also choose to receive an ascii dataset of summary data.

Step 4 - If a dataset is selected in Step 4, select outcome or covariate variables to be included in the dataset.

Step 5 - Review specifics of query. Make any changes as necessary.

Step 6 - Agree to data distribution documentation as determined by data source.

Submit request. User will receive a confirmation email. Data are made available via a secure FTP site.
